Lightweight Folding Mobility Scooters
A lightweight folding mobility scooter goes where you go. It folds into one compact unit, so you can slip it into a car trunk, take it on a train or store it in a closet at home. Compare manual-fold models and lightweight auto-folding scooters that fold at the touch of a button on a remote. Every order includes free U.S. delivery, in-home setup available and a 2-year warranty.
Drivers who load a scooter into a car, and want something they can lift and fit in a trunk.
Travelers who use trains, buses, taxis or cruise ships, and want a scooter that folds small.
Apartment and small-home owners who have limited storage space.
Riders with limited grip or strength, especially for auto-folding models, which need no heavy lifting to fold.
Anyone who wants a scooter for short, smooth trips: shopping centers, sidewalks, family visits and holidays.
Folding vs. travel (dismantling) scooters
A folding scooter collapses as a single piece, with no taking apart and putting back together. A travel scooter splits into several sections, which can be lighter to lift but need reassembly each time. If you'd rather dismantle than fold, see our lightweight mobility scooters.
Manual folding vs. lightweight auto folding mobility scooters
Manual folding: Lighter and often simpler. You slide or lower the frame by hand. The Micromus is a manual-fold model.
Auto folding: A button on a remote folds and unfolds the scooter for you, so there's less bending and no struggle with the frame. The Li-Tech Alpina Velo folds in about 8 seconds, though auto-fold models are usually heavier.
How to choose a lightweight folding mobility scooter
Check the weight you'll actually lift. Folding scooters don't split into parts, so the total weight matters. Some models let you remove the battery first to lighten the load.
Check the folded size. Measure your trunk, closet or storage space and compare it with each model's folded dimensions.
Match range to your trips. Folding scooters have smaller batteries, so range is typically around 8 to 11 miles. Choose one that covers your usual outing with some to spare.
Check weight capacity. Our folding models are rated for roughly 220 to 253 lb.
Think about terrain. Small solid tires and low ground clearance are best for smooth pavement, tile and shopping centers, not grass or gravel.
Consider the battery if you'll fly. Many airlines accept removable lithium batteries up to 300 Wh, but rules vary. Always check with your airline.
Category-specific questions
How light is "lightweight"? The Micromus weighs about 37 lb with the battery (34 lb without), and the Alpina Velo about 69 lb.
Will it fit in my trunk? The Micromus folds to about 27 × 17 × 11 inches, and the Alpina Velo to about 31 × 19 × 20 inches. Measure your trunk to be sure.
Can I take it on a plane? The Micromus battery is about 260 Wh, under the 300 Wh limit many airlines apply. The Alpina Velo battery is about 417 Wh, which is above it. Check with your airline before you book.
Is it comfortable? Padded seats help, but folding scooters are built for short trips, not long hauls.

Practical things to know before you buy
Lifting. Check that you can comfortably lift the scooter into your trunk. A model you can't lift defeats the point.
Charging. Both batteries can be charged off the scooter, so you can charge indoors.
Terrain. These scooters are designed for smooth surfaces. Avoid gravel, grass and steep slopes.
Speed and rules. At about 4 mph, they suit sidewalks and indoor spaces. Follow local rules on where mobility scooters can be used.
Safety. The Alpina Velo includes anti-tip wheels, front and rear LED lights, a brake light, a horn and a speed limiter. Check each model's listing for its safety features.
Medical advice. If you have balance or strength concerns, talk to your doctor or therapist before choosing a scooter.

FAQs
What is the lightest folding mobility scooter? The Micromus is our lightest folding model, at about 37 lb with the battery and 34 lb without it.
What is an auto-folding mobility scooter? It folds and unfolds with a button on a remote, so you don't have to lift or collapse the frame by hand. The Alpina Velo does this in about 8 seconds.
