Who are lightweight mobility scooters for?

  • Seniors who drive and want to load the scooter into the car themselves.
  • Travelers heading out on cruises, trains, flights or family trips.
  • People in apartments or small homes with limited storage.
  • Riders with limited grip strength, since wrap-around and wig-wag controls are easier on the hands.
  • Families and caregivers who do the lifting and want the lightest option.

Compact, collapsible and travel scooters: what's the difference?

  • Compact mobility scooters have a small footprint and tight turning, so they work in hallways, shops and elevators.
  • Collapsible mobility scooters fold into one unit or split into sections. Manual folders slide or lower by hand, while auto-folders, like the Li-Tech Alpina Velo, fold with a remote in about 8 seconds.
  • Travel mobility scooters are built to go with you. They have lithium batteries, compact folded sizes and, on some models, a pull-along handle like a suitcase.

Many of our models are all three at once.

How to choose a lightweight mobility scooter for seniors

  1. Check what you'll actually lift. For folding models, that's the whole scooter. For models that split apart, it's the heaviest piece. Some let you remove the battery first.
  2. Measure your trunk and storage space against the folded size.
  3. Match range to your trips. Our lightweight models are rated for about 8 to 11 miles, so choose one that covers your usual outing with some to spare.
  4. Check the weight rating. The scooters below carry 220 to 253 lb. If you need more, see our heavy duty scooters.
  5. Look at the controls and comfort. The Micromus has a wig-wag throttle that's easier on arthritic fingers, and the Velo has a wrap-around delta tiller.
  6. Be realistic about terrain. Most have solid tires and low ground clearance, so they're built for smooth pavement, tile and shopping centers.
